Meat Market Update | Valentine's Day sales pushes price higher, but volume declines

Ed Czerwien, market analyst based in Amarillo, Texas, offers a concise summary of how last week's beef trade impacted the cattle market and beef prices.

The Choice cutout continued to increase in value on the heels of the Valentine’s Day steak sales, but the number of loads sold dropped in all categories this week. Part of that decline in volume was because most of the Valentine’s Day product was booked ahead with the out-front type of sales. Many retail stores are having big advertised sales during the February 10-11 weekend.
