Feeder cattle numbers increased as cattle were moving off of grazed out wheat pastures with 39,000 head at the test auctions. This was about 11,000 head higher than last week. The prices were steady to $10 lower, but the yearlings were mostly steady to $2 lower with a big numbers of steers weighing over 800 lbs. and heifers over 700 lbs.
The slaughter cow numbers were almost the same as the previous week with 6,000 head at the test auctions. Prices were mostly steady to $1 lower, but there still was a lot of variations between the regions with plant closures. However, the cow meat prices continue to climb higher but with a smaller volume due to plant shut downs.
