Meat Market Update | Ball Park season, grilling pushes cutout higher

Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News reporter in Amarillo, TX, provides us with the latest outlook on boxed beef prices and the weekly cattle trade.

The Choice cutout continues to climb driven by the demand for grilling along with "Ball Park" season. In fact, the daily spot market for 50% trimmings, which are probably the largest single product in the cutout, doubled in price during the past two weeks. These trimmings are used in hot dog and sausage products and are greatly utilized for sporting events as well as grilling. Hot dog and sausage production always follow a seasonal increase this time of the year ahead of the ball season.
